It is clear that Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s governorship ambition seems to have been a cog in the wheel of other aspirants’ aspirations as they all unanimously insisted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) must conduct a free, fair and credible primary election for the most popular candidate to emerge.

That was the resolution of the aspirants on the occasion of the one year anniversary of a socio-political organisation called Afa Igbo Bu Ofu held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka at the weekend.

Although Prof. Soludo, APGA state chairman Sir Nobert Obi, and some other frontline government functionaries were not seen at the event where attendees adorned APGA regalia, it was obvious that Soludo was the reason for the gathering.

A participant and member of AFA IGBO BU OFU who spoke to our correspondent in anonymity said the body language of the state government tilted towards the ex-CBN governor and that if Prof. Soludo was eventually given the ticket, he would record a landslide victory for the APGA because of his pedigree and antecedents, irrespective of the grand design to pull him down within the APGA fold.

Meanwhile, other aspirants who spoke with journalists at the event, maintained that the party constitution and the electoral guidelines which made provisions for primary election to be conducted must be strictly adhered to, to avoid disintegration and balcanisation of the party, stressing that the November 6 governorship election is a must win for APGA to guarantee the consolidation and continuation of good governance in Anambra engendered by Governor Willie Obiano.
